The Solution

MDI worked with a prominent toolmaker to develop a retail torque sensor for the consumer market. The result was an ultra-low-cost sensor that is capable of generic use with any application that might require torque measurement. The meter and sensor combination can be affixed to a ratchet and used as a socket extension for a wide variety of general workshop type applications – such as lawnmower repair, tire or wheel changing, etc. The sensor and meter combination is packaged as a standard “off the shelf” product which offers under ±3% accuracy and which is sold through outlets of a major retailer.
